CHENNAI: The ruling DMK has accused the RSS and BJP of trying to project Savarkar as an incarnation and appealed to the people to realise the atrocities committed in the name of Hinduism.
Lambasting the BJP for glorifying Savarkar during the Vinayagar Chaturthi celebrations in Karnataka recently, DMK mouthpiece “Murasoli’ on Saturday said that the RSS and BJP has made major attempts to project Savarkar as god incarnate. Referring to the controversial “Bulbul” episode about Savarkar in Karnataka school textbooks and the ‘metaphor’ justification offered by the BJP for the same, the full-page article published in the DMK mouthpiece said, “If BJP’s plans continue, the face of Vinayagar would disappear and it would be designed as Vinayak Godse. Those who attempt to celebrate Vinayagar Chaturthi as Savarkar festival today, they will not hesitate to do that even.”
“Feel the atrocities committed in the name of Hinduism. Identify the pretentious Swadeshis who engage in political gamble by imposing communal hatred,” the article added. Quoting extensively from the confession of Mahatma Gandhi’s killer Nathuram Godse who claimed to have derived inspiration from Savarkar, the DMK said that such a person, who has been a subject of criticism, has been projected in the government advertisements during Independence Day and Vinayagar Chaturthi is being celebrated as Savarkar festival. The history of Tippu Sultan, who fought against British, has been removed from textbooks, but one who sent mercy petitions repeatedly from the prison and assured to serve the colonial Brits has been projected as a god incarnate, the DMK added.
