CHENNAI: The counselling for Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) for general category is set to begin on September 10 and conclude on November 13, announced State Higher Education Minister K Ponmudy here on Saturday.

According to the revised schedule, four rounds of counselling will be held till November 13. Students who have secured cut-off marks between 200 and 184.5 will be called in for the first round of counselling from September 10 to 15. This will approximately have 14,424 students in first round counselling.

Dates have been revised from August 25 due to delay in declaring the National Eligibility cum Entrance (NEET) results. However, after the National Testing Agency (NTA) on Friday confirmed that NEET results will be declared on September 7, minister Ponmudy too confirmed the revised dates for counselling.

The reason for postponing the counselling was to avoid wasting seats in engineering colleges, where every year, several students give up their BE seats to pursue medicine post qualifying for NEET. Due to this trend, many seats in engineering colleges go for a toss.
