CHENNAI: BJP national executive member Khushbu Sundar was trolled on social media for blaming judiciary for the release of convicts in Bilkis Bano gangrape case and dragging Congress in it.

A week after release of the convicts in the Bilkis Bano case by BJP government in Gujarat, the actress turned politician wrote on Twitter that no man who has been involved the rape case should go free.

"A woman who is raped, assaulted, brutalised and her soul scarred for life must get justice. No man who has been involved in it should go free. If he does so, it's an insult to humankind and womanhood. #BilkisBano or any woman, needs support, beyond politics and ideologies. Period," she tweeted.

Responding to her tweet, Agnivo Niyogi, a Bengali writer, asked Khushbu why she stopped short of naming the party/government which freed the rapists? "Why are you still in a party that supports this ideology?" he wondered.

BJP leader blamed the judiciary for releasing the convicts. "I was at the party that allowed Nirbhaya to happen. Nothing can be more shameful than that. It’s the judiciary that released the convicts. But I guess your hate towards BJP and our PM pushed you to speak in tone. My sympathies are with you. And I said no politics. Think beyond politics," she replied in a tweet.

But, dragging the Nirbhaya case and Congress incurred the wrath of the national party. Mohan Kumaramangalam, working president, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee said that Khushbu is now in a party that releases rapists and garlands them. "Yes @khushsundar because no heinous sex crime against women has been committed since 2014. You were in a party that brought the Nirbhaya act,a party whose leader Nirbhaya’s mother called her guardian angel. You are now in a party that releases rapists and garlands them. Good move," he said.

The actress cum politician hit back at the Congress over the release of Perarivalan, the life convict in former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi assassination case.
