Elderly woman found dead in her house in Tirupur, jewels missing

A 74-year-old elderly woman was found murdered and 12 sovereigns of gold jewels that she was wearing and Rs 25,000 had been looted by burglars from her house in Tirupur.

The deceased Valliammal, wife of Nachimuthu, was residing alone in a house located in the midst of her ten-acre farm land at Marudurai village in Kangeyam. She had leased out her farm land to one Subramaniam, who had been cultivating tapioca and maize. On Wednesday night, Subramaniam had gone to the farm to check the status of water supply to crops. As he found the doors ajar in Valliammal’s house, Subramaniam went in to check. He was shocked to find the elderly woman lying dead in a pool of blood with injuries to her head. Also the bureau remained open with valuables lying in a disarrayed manner. Kangeyam police pressed forensic experts and a sniffer dog into service for the inquiry. Police confirmed that a total of 12 sovereigns of gold jewels, including those worn by the elderly woman and Rs 25,000 kept in the bureau were taken away by thieves. Special teams were formed to probe the murder.
