According to a TNPCB statement, campaigns would be conducted in all 15 zones of the city for two days. “To monitor air quality during Deepavali, devices have been installed across the city and State. Air quality will be monitored for 14 days between November 7 to November 21,” the statement said.
Mobile continuous ambient air quality monitoring stations would be deployed at major locations in the city, and the findings (air quality index) would be released on TNPCB website. The board reiterated that the firecrackers should be burst only between 6 am to 7 am and 7pm to 8 pm as directed by the Supreme Court. High decibel crackers should be avoided, and crackers should not be burst near hospitals, places of worship among other places. “Residents’ welfare associations can arrange for ground to burst crackers at once with the permission of district administrations and local bodies,” the statement added.
