New home for kids, upskill unit for healthcare workers opened

After a long struggle, students of Annai Sathya Ammaiyar Government Home of Children got a permanent building as Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Thursday inaugurated the new structure constructed at the cost of Rs 5 crore.

The new hostel buildings constructed at an area of 2,210 square feet will have space to host 100 students. The hostel buildings has rooms for children, kitchen, food mess, classrooms, room for warden, office rooms, rooms for workers and a counselling room.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister also launched the Tamil Nadu Apex Skill Development Centre for Healthcare (TNASDCHC), a venture by Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation to upskill, reskill and cross skill healthcare professionals with the help of private healthcare providers.

Kauvery Hospital will be training healthcare professionals at the Tamil Nadu Apex Skill Development Centre under the Scheme – Tamil Nadu Investment Promotion Programme- Phase II, assisted by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The center will function on a Public Private Partnership model and is located at Thiru Vi Ka Industrial Estate, Guindy.

“In the next five years, there will be a demand of 3.27 lakh workforce for the healthcare sector in the state. Hence, this Centre will aid as a catalyst in bridging the skill gap and also will help enrich the skills of healthcare professionals,” said Colonel R Alagarraj (retd), Director Projects, TNASDC for Health Care.

Dr Chandra Kumar, founder and executive chairman at Kauvery Hospitals said, “With a surge in the demand for skilled workforce, we believe this initiative will help to build a strong healthcare system. Hence every role is given due importance for training at this centre,” he added.

The Chief Minister also inaugurated a new Tahsildar office and residential quarters at Nolambur near Maduravoyal, constructed at the cost of Rs 2.22 crore.
