Farm power applications to go digital, view status at a click
In an effort to make the process of agricultural service connection transparent, Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) chairman and managing director Pankaj Kumar Bansal has directed the IT wing to provide provision for farmers to view the status of their registered agriculture application online.

The move would help farmers who had registered for agricultural power supply as early as the year 2000 as they can now view their status with just one click from their homes. As of August this year, 4.74 lakh applications are pending with the Tangedco for power supply to farmland.
In a circular, the discom’s distribution director issued a direction to all the chief engineers of the distribution region to take steps to enter the details of the manually registered agricultural applications in the division office into the low-tension billing software application tracking module.
The director, pointing to a direction from Tangedco CMD, also asked the chief engineers to send a confirmation report on or before September 21 to the chief engineer of the planning and resource centre wing that all manual applications are made digital.
Tangedco move has come amid the recent Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission amending the Tamil Nadu Electricity Supply and Distribution codes, simplifying and easing the existing procedures for applying for agriculture service connection, getting the service connection after applying, shifting of the service connection from one place to another place and getting approval for installation of change over switch, for the benefit of the farmers and avoidance of delay.
