“It is the duty of the government and opposition parties to counsel students to allay their fears over NEET instead of exploiting their sentiments. Students take extreme steps even when results of classes 10 and 12 are declared. Parents and politicians should only try to alleviate their fears,” he said while speaking to the media in Tirupur.

To a query on AIADMK’s opposition to NEET, the BJP leader said the test was not conducted for Tamil Nadu alone, but a nationwide one held based on Supreme Court’s order. “Intake of students will increase, as 13 new medical colleges and AIIMS are being established in the State,” he said.

Asserting that there was no rift in BJP-AIADMK relationship, Murugan said alliances were for polls and each party would hold different principles and policies over the language policy.

“Only students from government schools are deprived of an opportunity to learn Hindi, all other students, including those in matriculation schools, are learning Hindi. The BJP’s stand is that government school students should also be given a chance to learn another language,” he said.

The BJP leader also welcomed the state government’s proposal for a quota in medical seats for students from government schools and sought its speedy implementation.

Responding to a query on the party’s prediction of winning in 60 seats, Murugan claimed the BJP proved a deciding factor in determining the outcome in 75 constituencies in the 2016 Assembly polls. “Alliances will be decided only during the time polls,” he added.
