Governor, CM, leaders extend Bakrid greetings

Governor Banwarilal Purohit, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam and leaders of various political parties on Friday extended their Bakrid greetings to the Muslims in the state.

In his greetings, Purohit said, “on the occasion of Festival of Sacrifice —Eid-ul-Adha —I extend my best wishes and heartiest greetings to all our Muslim brothers and sisters.”

“Eid-ul-Adha marks the bowing down of Man to God’s command and celebrates the occasion as one of supreme sacrifice in obedience to the will of the Almighty,” he said, according to a Raj Bhavan communique.

“Let us all on this holy occasion resolve to uphold the virtue of divinity in the human being by promoting the values of generosity, tolerance and compassion in society,” Purohit said.

In his greetings, Palaniswami said the festival symbolises that those having faith in God would not hesitate for any sacrifice.

The festival honours the willingness of Ibrahim to sacrifice his only son Ismael as an act of obedience to God’s command. He said on this auspicious occasion, said Muslims should keep in mind the principles of Quran and foster love, peace and humanity and live in unity with a sense of brotherhood and love. On behalf of the AIADMK, Palaniswami, who is the joint coordinator of the party and coordinator and Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam also greeted the Muslims on the occasion of Bakrid.

Leaders of various parties, including PMK founder Dr S Ramadoss, Youth Wing leader and former union minister Anbumani Ramadoss, Tamil Maanila Congress president and former union shipping minister GK Vasan and Indian Hajj Association president Abubacker also extended their Bakrid greetings.
