The CB CID team led by DSP Anil Kumar conducted inquiries with four men, who were said to be friends of the victim. They were interrogated at the CB CID office in Thoothukudi on Tuesday. Besides, some relatives of the victim were also inquired, sources said.

According to Vadivu, the victim’s mother, her 28-year old son, Mahendran, was illegally detained on May 18 in connection with a murder of the murder of Jakumar of Peikulam that happened on May 18 by Inspector S Srithar and Sub Inspector Raghu Ganesh, both attached to the Sathankulam police station and have been arrested and jailed in connection with custodial deaths of father-son duo P. Jayaraj (58) and his son J. Bennix (31).

Since the Sathankulam police could not trace Durai her elder son, who was suspected in the murder of Jayakumar, they took away Mahendran on May 23. Mahendran was let out from the Sathankulam station on the night of May 24 with injuries. The CB CID is likely to probe some more witnesses in Pappankulam village from where Mahendran was arrested from his grandma’s house, in Tirunelveli district.
