Police and Fire Service personnel’s search for a body in a water filled stone quarry here for the past two days with the help of NDRF from Arakkonam turned futile on Friday. However, they pulled out a stolen bike earlier from the quarry.

On Tuesday night, residents near the quarry in Chitheri on the outskirts of Vellore town heard the sound of a two-wheeler plunging into the water filled quarry. They immediately alerted the Ariyur police. The officers started the search on Wednesday morning both for the rider and the vehicle. Soon they pulled out the two-wheeler. Police found that the vehicle was stolen from a house in Thorapadi area on Sunday night.

Unable to find the rider’s body, police and fire service officers took the help of National Disaster Response Force stationed at Arakkonam.

The NDRF men too failed to located the body. The officers’ hope of seeing the body float to the surface as it was three days since the incident was also dashed on Friday.

They doubted that it could have been caught between rocks at the bottom.

However, police felt that the rider, knowing that he was using a stolen vehicle and fearing detection, could have pushed the vehicle into the quarry and walked away. But still now no conclusion has been arrived yet.
