In a shocking incident, a young North Indian woman was pushed out of a moving car at Sengipatti on Tiruchy-Thanjavur highway.

Around 10 AM on Monday, occupants of a car that was plying at a high speed on Thanjavur-Tiruchy highway allegedly pushed off a 20-year-old woman, a migrant worker from West Bengal at Sengipatti junction and fled the spot. The woman, who sustained serious injuries, managed to crawl off the road to escape hitting by passing vehicles and reached a shop nearby.

On seeing the woman’s precarious condition, the shopkeeper inquired her as to what happened. As she conversed in Hindi, he could not understand, but sensed that she had escaped a threat to her life.

Fortunately, the shopkeeper ran to a group of AIDWA members, who getting ready for a protest at Sengipatti junction, and sought their help. When AIDWA district secretary Tamil Selvi and some members spoke to the woman, she told them that she was from West Bengal and had come to work as a housemaid in Thanjavur, through her relatives in Bengaluru, five months back. Meanwhile, a group of unidentified persons brought her in a car and threw on the road. The victim, who has been admitted to a hospital, informed the AIDWA members that she wanted to go to Bengaluru to meet her relatives. “She had Rs 48,000 in cash in her possession,” said Tamil Selvi. The AIDWA members lodged a complaint with Sengipatti police.
