More than eight lakh students wrote the board exams based on the new syllabus, which is widely considered to be tougher than the previous one. In all, more than 50 lakh answer sheets have to be evaluated. A senior official from the School Education Department told DT Next that the State Government has issued a detailed standard operating procedure (SOP) for evaluation centres with regard to COVID-19 situation.

More than 3,000 evaluation centres have been set up, the official said, adding that each evaluation room would have one chief examiner for scrutiny and six assistant examiners. The seating arrangements for the evaluators would be made duly following social distancing norms, said the official.

Before commencing the work, the premises and also doors, windows, furniture, handrails, etc. would be properly disinfected, he said. “The centres should be fully disinfected twice daily – before and after evaluation,” he added.

Pointing out that the adequate provision for hand wash with soap and running water, which is the most preferred mode of disinfection for hands, would be made, he said hand sanitisers would also be provided. “Evaluators will have to compulsorily wear face masks, and will be allowed to the enter premises only after washing their hands,” he said, adding that hand sanitisers would be kept outside the evaluation rooms.

According to the official, chief education superintendents have been directed to ensure that clean face masks were used by the teachers involved in evaluation work. “Evaluators were instructed that touching face or any part of the face should be avoided and spitting is strictly prohibited,” he said.

The official said once the evaluation was completed for a particular subject, the answer scripts would be immediately uploaded on the central server the same day. “The CD containing the answer sheet data would be handed over to the head of the directorate by the first week of June, and results are likely to be announced in the second week,” he added.
