Minister for School Education KA Sengottaiyan on Sunday said that teachers involved in Class 10 examination works in containment zones would be provided with PPE kits.

Speaking to media in Erode, the minister said that arrangements have been made to provide PPE kits to ensure that teachers involved in exam duty in containment areas are completely safe.

“E-pass will be given to students staying in other districts and States and for one of their parents to accompany them to return home and take up the exam. Also, students staying in school hostels should return three days in prior to the hostel. The school managements have been asked to ensure all arrangements are in place,” the minister said.

The minister has already made a slew of announcements, including increasing the number of examination centres from the existing 5,037 to 12,000 and limit the number of students in halls to ensure social distancing.

Sengottaiyan said that arrangements have been made to establish examination centres for students in containment zones itself. “Even if there is a marriage hall in the containment zone, then some 30 students can take up the exam there. They need not come out and mingle with students in other areas,” he said.

“Efforts have been taken to ensure that the information and exam schedule reaches out to students staying in hilly regions. Details of students preparing to write the exam have been collected through district chief education officers and it has been ensured that none was affected by COVID-19. But their only issue is transportation and it will also be sorted out,” he said.

For students, who could not write their exams due to some circumstance, the minister said that it has been under consideration to conduct re-examination.

The minister also said that the Education Department would issue a clear statement on the conduct of exam after consulting Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Monday.
