Stalin demands payment of Rs 5K each to unorganised workers
Leader of Opposition MK Stalin has urged the State government to pay Rs 5,000 each to unorganised workers and a special pay to each health workers and policemen on the frontline of the fight against coronavirus spread. Stalin said the rise in number of containment zones in Chennai was alarming and people have the responsibility to ensure that it does not deteriorate into community transmission.

He said the situation must be handled with caution in such districts as testing has not been completed.
Urging the Centre and State to constitute a special committee to examine the social, economic and life needs and extend all possible assistance, he said the labourers were reportedly surviving only on porridge even in villages of Chief Minister’s native Edappadi constituency.
Wondering if the government would lift them up by paying Rs 5,000 each or let them down, Stalin, asked if Tamil Nadu was in such a state that it could not guarantee three meals a day.
Meanwhile Stalin wrote to the Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray seeking to provide relief to Tamil migrant workers stranded in Mumbai. Referring to his interaction with stranded Tamil migrant workers, he said,
“They had informed me that they require state government assistance for relief and return to Tamil Nadu at the earliest.” “I request you to direct your office to reach out and assist Tamil migrants to help them return back,” he said.
