Ambur town to be sealed from today, essentials to reach houses
Ambur town will be fully locked down from Monday till further notice, according to Tirupattur Collector MP Sivan Arul. The district administration took the decision after holding discussions with trade and commercial establishments representatives in the town. The total lockdown will affect the town’s 1.14 lakh population, officials added.

Of the 22 cases who tested positive for the dreaded coronavirus in Tirupattur district, 8 are from Ambur town. They along with 5 of their relatives who also tested positive are currently undergoing treatment at the Vellore Government Medical College Hospital, he said.
Outlining the measures to ensure the total lockdown to be effective, the Collector said all vegetables and groceries would be provided at the doorsteps of individual houses through mobile vans pressed into service by voluntary organisations and the administration. Individual streets were barricaded to prevent residents resorting to using vehicles unnecessarily while people were warned not to venture out without wearing face masks. As regards availability of money, officials asked locals to use the nearest ATM while all vehicles entering and leaving the town would be sprayed with disinfectants, Sivan Arul added.
