The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has requested Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister Edappadi Palanisamy for an extension of lockdown by 3 weeks.

In a letter listed with the reasons for requesting an extension, lauded government measures of curtailing and delaying the transitional severity of Covid-19.

Enumerating the reasons, the letter reiterated the fact that India and Tamil Nadu hasn't touched the plateau due to severe lockdown measures. It requested much severe lockdowns in identified hotspots of the spread.

It also pointed at the tarried announcement of lockdown which cost US and Italy a lot of lives.

The letter does not just cite reasons for lockdown extension but also shared suggestions.

The suggestions ranged from increased testing, upgrading all coronavirus centres for stage 3 tests to getting all the groceries at the door-step of people so they wouldn't find excuses to step out.

Then there is a special concern for people below poverty line, whose needs were recommended in the letter to be focussed on primarily by the government.

As a safety measure requirement IMA raised the alarming need of essential protective kits for its medical fraternity to cope with positive cases reaching crescendo.

The lockdown as of now is till April  14, there are high chances for extension as Prime Minister Narendra Modi too hinted at the extension after his meeting with Chief Ministers of all states.
