Sujatha, Dean of Kanniyakumari Government Medical College Hospital in Asaripallam on Sunday denied the report of a 59-year-old woman dying due to COVID-19 infection.

When contacted, she said that the patient earlier got admitted to the hospital on Saturday afternoon with complaints of heart ailments. After enquiring, the Dean said the patient had multiple ailments such as schizophrenia and she was also diabetic. She consulted a private clinic for medical treatments for the last ten years. However, there is no COVID-19 symptom and sample was sent to lab for medical test and the report is awaited. Besides, the Dean said all five cases treated in the Government Medical College Hospital showed negative in the tests.

Further, sources from the hospital said the patient was administered ventilator support while being admitted on Saturday. The private clinic referred the ill-fated patient at the last minute suspecting COVID-19. The patient had no travel history and more importantly, swab test report from Tirunelveli showed negative. Further, sources from the Department of Public Health and Preventive Medicine said adequate precautionary measures were in place to prevent any outbreak.
