Kovai tense again after fresh incidents

The attack came to light around 10.30 am, when the party functionaries came to open the office on Range Konar Street, near Kattoor in Ram Nagar. They found shattered pieces of a bottle and spillover of petrol on the wall.

On receiving information, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law & Order) Balaji Saravanan, Assistant Commissioner Karthikeyan and other officials rushed to the spot and held inquiries.

Forensic experts collected finger prints on broken glass pieces, while images recorded on CCTV camera fixed in the locality were being scrutinised to identify the culprits.

The police said unidentified persons came in a two-wheeler and hurled the petrol bomb targeting the Hindu Munnani office around 11pm on Monday. The bomb landed on footsteps on the office premises, but failed to go off.

Special teams of police have been formed to nab the culprits and security has been stepped up to prevent any untoward incidents. As the news of the attack spread, a large number of cadre from various Hindu outfits gathered at the office.

Hindu Munnani state president ‘Kadeswara’ C Subramaniam, BJP leader CP Radhakrishnan and other functionaries held discussions at the party office. Speaking to media, Subramaniam blamed intelligence failure of the police for the petrol bomb attack on their party office.  

 “Such attacks are continuing as the police constantly fail to act on the perpetrators. The police are yet to find out those who attacked the Hindu Munnani functionary Anandan. We have decided to hold a demonstration in Tatabad on Wednesday evening condemning the petrol bomb attack on our party office,” he said.

Stating that some political parties are instigating communal tension, Subramaniam said that a car was burnt in Tirupur, a couple was attacked in Mangalam in Tirupur on religious lines. Though many such incidents have happened, the police remain inactive,” he said.
