CMCH ward gets colourful makeover to cheer up children

Enter the paediatric ward in Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) and one is now greeted by colourful illustrations, making it resemble a playschool of sorts. The ward’s otherwise drab walls are now splashed with such vibrance, thanks to the efforts of students from Sri Krishna Adithya College of Arts and Science and volunteers of Chandran’s Yuva Foundation.

“Children may feel refreshed on seeing the paintings and cartoons. Also, the lively ambience will help them to forget their pain and feel de-stressed,” said Shasikala Sathiyamurthy, chairperson of Chandran’s Yuva Foundation.

The walls in the ward are now adorned with illustrations of children driving cars, playing with toys, playing football, gardening and other concepts. Awareness illustrations, including avoiding plastics use and improving green cover, also find a placeon the walls.

The transformation was made possible with as many as 200 student volunteers giving a makeover to the department as part of ‘Vanam 2.0’ edition, targeting to paint around 5000 sq ft space in the paediatric ward spread over three floors in the hospital.

This comes when they had only recently painted the walls of Ukkadam bus stand on the theme, ‘Colours of Kovai’.

CMCH Dean Dr B Ashokan, said that children undergoing treatment may feel good and turn cheerful due to these colourful illustrations. Malarvizhi, chairperson and managing trustee of Sri Krishna Institutions, C Sivanesan, founder and managing trustee, Chandran’s Yuva Foundation were among those others who were present during an event showcasing the renewed look of the ward.
