Reacting to the order, Bedi in a WhatsApp post said, “Our carrying out the direction of the Government of India for direct transfer of free rice money into bank account of BPL and APL card holders has been upheld by the High Court. The Court observed that the direction of the President of India is binding on all.”

Thanking Justice CV Karthikeyan, who delivered the verdict, the Lt Governor said that this will check all possible leakages and pilferage and empower people financially without any middle men to buy rice of their choice and time.

Pondy Minister to  sue Bedi for blocking welfare schemes
Health Minister Malladi Krishna Rao on Friday threatened to sue Lt Governor  Kiran Bedi for allegedly blocking people’s welfare schemes in the Union Territory. A case will be filed  in this regard in a week’s time, he added. Talking to reporters here, the Minister said that the Lt Governor was blocking people’s welfare schemes and  added that he got details of the same from the departments. If Bedi wants to personally oppose him, he is ready, Rao said, adding that she shouldn’t, however, stall people’s welfare schemes.
Rao also said that a legislation would be enacted  to obtain 50 per cent MBBS seats in private medical colleges here as government quota. Centac officials functioned as per rules in the 2017 medical admission, the Minister said. However, there were unwarranted allegations against them and later the CBI, after inquiry, came to the conclusion that they did nothing wrong, he added. Stating that the Lt Governor was of the thought that whatever she says is rule, Rao said there is no separate rule for her or the Chief Minister and that it is common for all.
Further, the Minister said that the Central government had in 2018 sanctioned Rs 137 crore for the construction of a protection wall to prevent Yanam from floods whenever the Godavari is in spate.
However, the Lt Governor blocked the same, he alleged. Alleging that Bedi has blocked several people’s welfare schemes, the Minister said a case will be filed against her in the court in a week’s time.
