Ahead of the urban local body polls expected in the month of April, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami is all set to take a statewide tour covering most of the districts to lay foundation stones for new medical colleges and government buildings.

The roadshow will also have public interactions and party meetings to ensure that the party performs better in the upcoming civic polls, AIADMK sources said.


The civic polls results are crucial as it will be a prelude for the next year Assembly polls and the Chief Minister is keen on winning the maximum number of mayor and municipal chairman posts said an informed ruling party legislator.


The AIADMK is building infrastructure which can benefit the public. For instance, creating five new collectorates is a boon to the public and it reduces the travel time for residents availing government schemes and certificates, the MLA added.


New bridges, grade separators, government buildings, government parks are also to be inaugurated ahead of the civic polls.


Once when the polls are announced, the inaugurals will get delayed due to model code of conduct. So, an update is collected on the status of projects to plan inaugural functions by the Chief Minister, an informed official toldDT Next.


The dates of Chief Minister’s tour programme are getting scheduled for the month of March.


“The AIADMK government in the past one year has got a record sanction of six medical colleges and the state had also begun the papers work for establishing three more medical colleges. The government as a policy has planned to ensure that all the districts in TN have a medical college,” says former AIADMK MLA KuSrinivasan.


The party leaders are keen on winning the civic polls and the upcoming Assembly polls and the campaign process will kick start during the inaugurals of these new government schemes, he said.
