A division bench comprising Justice Vineet Kothari and Justice R Suresh Kumar before whom the plea came offered the direction on a plea seeking to direct the state to prevent accidental deaths by drowning in waterbodies by displaying danger signs.

The petitioner had submitted that these untoward deaths are preventable and implementation of proven measures can significantly minimise drownings.

During the hearing on Tuesday, the counsel appearing for HR & CE submitted that instructions have been issued to all temples in the state to keep the entry into the tanks under lock and key and deploy watch personnel around the tank 24X7 to ensure that unauthorised entry is prevented. However, the counsel sought more time to make submissions on the security arrangements being made in temples at Kanniyakumari, Rameshwaram and Tiruchendur, which are located near the sea.
