“It is the first-ever meeting that had a detailed discussion and review on the ongoing projects. Since it is the meeting for the development of the district, it is the duty of all the elected members to attend and share their views,”  Thirunavukkarasar told reporters after the meeting.
He said that the meeting had an elaborate discussion over the Central projects like Pradhan Mantri Avaz Yojna, Pradhan Mantri Kisan Vikas Yojna, National Rural Livelihood Mission, Mid-Day Meal Scheme, Swachh Bharat, Free Gas Scheme, Indira Gandhi Old Age Pension Scheme and other social supportive programmes and Smart City programme, Pradhan Mantri Crop Insurance Scheme, SSA, Janani Suraksha and other programmes.

The MP reviewed all the projects and assured to get the required fund for the completion of the ongoing Central projects.
“The officials have briefed on the projects and the local body elected members were also briefed on the projects.
Since the Central projects mostly benefit the rural areas, the local body elected members would continue to participate in the programme which has been scheduled to be held once in three months,” he said.
District Collector S Sivarasu, Karur MP S Jothimani and other local body members were present.
Funds released for CCTV monitoring to curb offences
Funds have been released for both Tiruchy and Pudukkottai districts to install CCTV cameras so that criminal activities would be controlled to a certain extent, MP S Thirunavukkarasar said here on Tuesday.
Strongly condemning the murders that took place in Tiruchy on consecutive days, Thirunavukkarasar said the police department is short-staffed. “I have been insisting to increase the police strength as the population had increased to around eight crore in the state.
But, the police strength continues as fixed in a few decades back and it is high time the strength increased based on the increase in the population,” Thirunavukkarasar said.
He also said that it was unfortunate that murders do happen in the region. “There is no point in politicising the murders. The loss is for the particular family and so the accused should be arrested and given proper punishment,” he said.
He said that adequate fund has been released to install CCTV cameras across the district to curb the anti-social activities.
Once the entire districts is under the camera surveillance, the offences would be reduced and the police should be alert and initiate prompt steps to curb the menace at once, he stressed.
Meanwhile, he said that he would meet Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami for the developmental activities to his constituency.
“I would soon meet the CM and request steps for the developmental activities for Tiruchy,” Thirunavukkarasar said, adding that he would appeal to initiate steps to declare Tiruchy the second capital of Tamil Nadu owing to its proximity with the other parts of the state.
