Arjun Sampath arrested for draping saffron shawl and Rudraksha mala on Thiruvalluvar statue

Hindu Makkal Katchi leader Arjun Sampath was arrested for draping a saffron shawl and placing a Rudraksha mala on  Thiruvalluvar statue in Thanjavur.

The coronation day of The Great King Rajaraja Chola, who built the Brihadeeswara Temple in Thanjavur was celebrated on Wednesday. Leaders from various political parties and activists participated in this ceremony and placed garland on his idol.

After this ceremony, the members of the Youth Wing party headed by Arjun Sampath moved to Pillayarpatti to visit the Thiruvalluvar statue which was desecrated by a mysterious gang recently. After draping saffron shawl and Rudraksha mala, Arjun Sampath worshipped the statue with a brief pooja. Large number of Hindu Makkal Katchi members participated in this darshan.

On meeting the reporters, Arjun said, “Whenever Prime Minister Narendra Modi visits abroad, he makes public statements about the pride of Thirukkural and Thiruvalluvar. His frequent quotations of Thirukkural speaks volumes about the greatness of Tamil language. The DMK could not tolerate this.” He added, “It is reprehensible that Thiruvalluvar statue in Pillayarpatti was insulted. I suspect the involvement of DMK in this act.”

“Thiruvalluvar is a Hindu. We should worship him, according to the Hindu tradition. DMK leader MK Stalin claims that it is Hindus who insulted the Thiruvalluvar statue. I strongly condemn and caution him against misrepresenting Hindus. I urge the central government to make sure that all Thiruvalluvar statues in the world must be worshiped under Hindu tradition”, he said.

After the arrest, Arjun Sampath was taken to the Thanjavur SP office. He is currently being investigated.
