HC poser to DMK MLA over facing trial in job racket
The Madras High Court Tuesday orally observed that prime facie material was available against former minister Senthil Balaji, who is facing a corruption case in an alleged job racket in the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation, and asked why he was hesitating to face the trial.

Justice Anand Venkatesh made the observation during the hearing of a petition by Balaji seeking to quash the FIR registered against him over an alleged job racket in TNSTC. The judge noted that when prima facie material was there and a case had been registered, why the petitioner was hesitating toface the trial.
After senior counsel for the petitioner ARL Sundaresan sought time to argue the case, the Judge adjourned the matter to June 18 for final hearing. The FIR had been registered on a complaint by Ganesh Kumar, an employee of the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation. The complainant alleged that he handed over Rs 95 lakh, the amount collected from 16 persons to get jobs in the Transport Department, to the minister’s associates.
The Central Crime Branch, Chennai, has registered a case against him under various section of the IPC, including 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating).
It may be noted that former AIADMK Minister Senthil Balaji, was disqualified after siding with AMMK founder TTV Dhinakaran. Later he joined the DMK and got elected from Aravakurichi Assembly constituency.
