Even teachers claimed that all the questions were from the syllabus and adding to this, the question papers were in the pattern as given in the model exam paper released by the government. Though the government released model question papers for all the subjects last month, students did not have any clue about the exam pattern till Tuesday.

"Even one-word questions came within the portion and there was also no twist in it," said K Viswanathan, Class XI students of a private school in Pammal.

He said other questions from Thirukkural and poetry, which were difficult in the recent revision test was also easy in the board exam.

The Class XI teachers said that they were also equally curious to know about their student's performance in the first exam. "It was really a tense moment since my students were facing the exam with the new syllabus. Though we had a few model papers, which were released by the Education Department, students had no idea about the question paper pattern until the main exams," said V Amudhavalli, a government teacher at Pallavaram.

Sources from the Directorate of Examination said that the question papers were set carefully taking into consideration of the new syllabus.

The students would be facing English exam after a day’s gap, on Friday. The main exams for both Science and Commerce students starts on Tuesday. The last exam will be held on March 22.

Meanwhile, no malpractices in the exam halls were reported anywhere in the State.
