A VCK cadre and dalit activist from Tiruvarur, who arranged an inter-caste love marriage of a girl belonging to a SC community with an OBC caste youth a year ago, was hacked to death by the youth on Sunday and the relatives and members of political parties on Monday staged road blockade demanding CB-CID enquiry into the murder.

According to sources, Selva Rasan, secretary of the VCK unit of Muthupettai south union coming under Kovilur village in Tiruvarur district, was clearing snails at a coconut grove owned by Mahendran of the same village on Sunday. At that time, Rajasekar (27), who was earlier working along with Selva Rasan in a borewell drilling unit, came in a motorcycle and attacked him with lethal weapons before fleeing the spot. Soon, Mahendran along with others rushed Selva Rasan to Muthupettai Government hospital. However, the doctors pronounced him ‘brought dead.’  The Muthupettai police registered a case and commenced investigation into the murder.

Preliminary inquiries revealed that Selva Rasan and Rajasekar were working in a same unit a year ago. Rajasekar, who was from an BC community, was in love with a girl belonging to a Dalit community. Due to some issue, Rajasekar refused to marry her and the girl approached the all women police station. Later, Rajasekar agreed to marry the girl after Selva Rasan’s intervention. A month ago, Rajasekar’s wife delivered a boy.

Meanwhile, Rajasekar, who developed a hatred against Selva Rasan over the marriage with a dalit girl, started working at a different place. However, his anger towards Selva Rasan’s lingered on. So, to settle scores for arranging the marriage, Rajasekar murdered Selva Rasan on Sunday, police said.

Police officers, after getting some leads arrested Rajasekar, who was hiding in the house of his relative in Karaikal. Meanwhile, members from various political parties, including VCK, CPI, CPM and TMMK, staged a road blockade near the old bus stand at Muthupettai demanding the case be transferred to the CB-CID, and adequate compensation be given to the family of Selva Rasan.

Unidentified gang murders political party advocate

An advocate belonging to the VCK party was killed by unidentified persons at Sholavaram on Monday. Police officials suspect the role of his second wife’s relatives in the murder. Suresh kumar (47) residing at Gandhi Nagar in Sholavaram was posted as the deputy organiser for the legal department of the VCK. He was married to Buelah and had two children.

On Monday, when he was about to return from a shop at Gandhi Nagar, he was interrupted by two persons near a police booth. “The two men attacked Suresh Kumar with weapons that led to his death on the spot,” a police official said. Police personnel at the booth immediately rushed to the spot and recovered the body, which was later sent to the Ponneri government hospital for post mortem. Inquiries revealed that Suresh had married Ramya, a 23-year-old woman from the same street.

Police said when his first wife came to know of his second marriage, trouble rose in the family. He was then forced to separate with Ramya. Following the ruckus, Suresh had even filed a complaint at the Madhavaram police station against relatives, police officials said. Police officials said that two relatives of Ramya, Kamaraj and Johnson, have surrendered to the Minjur police in connection with the murder. Further investigation is on.
