SCERT releases practical books for Class XI students

The books, published in e-format and uploaded on the SCERT website, are available in both English and Tamil.

Part of the State government’s free textbook programme, the new books aims to introduce fundamental concepts to enable students understand the subject thoroughly. The government has introduced a revamped syllabus for Class 11 starting this academic year.

When contacted, a senior SCERT official told DTNext that the books are a maiden attempt by the council which would benefit not only students, but also teachers of a subject.

Accordingly, SCRET has introduced practical books on 18 subjects for vocational students and those pursuing science subjects such as Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Zoology, Biology, Home Science, Nutrition and Dietetics and Automobile Engineering.

“All the books have been prepared by experts and academicians drawn from across the country, including New Delhi,” the official said.

He said each book starts with general instructions for the students, to be observed during the practical sessions. Similarly, for each topic, the book will have a comprehensive illustration drawn by noted artists. Students could download the books from the SCERT website.

“They can also take printouts of specific topics in the book”, the official said, adding that it would be useful for Class 11 students since they will be facing board exams under the new curriculum for the first time.

He said the books will also help teachers reinforce the key steps that students must keep in mind during scientific experiments and while writing reports.

Since it is their first attempt, the SCERT has urged academicians and other stakeholders to give suggestions, which will be considered and incorporated in future books.
