100 Feet Road in Puducherry to be named after M Karunanidhi
The Puducherry government has decided to name the 100 feet road from Indira Gandhi square to Rajiv Gandhi square after former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi.

Talking to media persons after chairing a Cabinet meeting on Monday night, Chief Minister V Narayanasamy said the Thirunallar by-pass road in Karaikal region, besides the Post Graduate (PG) centre there would also be named after the late DMK leader.Â
The CM added that a chair in Karunanidhi’s name would be instituted at the Pondicherry university.
Stating that the government has taken a decision to desilt all tanks, canals and channels in all the four regions of the Union territory, Narayanasamy said that the public who require sand for their house or field could collect it from the tanks and channels.
For this, a sum of Rs 50 would be charged for a bullock cart load of sand, Rs 100 for a tractor and Rs 150 for a lorry load. The amount collected would be given to the local panchayats for its development, he added.
Stating that the people of Yanam region suffered due to the recent rain, the chief minister announced an interim compensation of Rs 3,000 would be provided to every family.Â
He said of the 32,500 families who obtained financial assistance under the Kamaraj housing scheme, 28,800 families had completed the construction of their houses.Â
As 2,949 families failed to construct houses, they will have to return the money obtained from the government along with a fine of Rs 3,000, Narayanasamy said.
