SETC eyes more buses, better services from September
The State Express Transport Corporation (SETC) will add 50 new buses to its existing fleet, said senior officials. The aim, the officials added, is to provide service that is on a par with private operators.

A senior official of the State run corporation said, “New buses ranging from AC buses to seater-cum-sleepers will be introduced before the end of September. We are increasing the standard of buses on a par with private buses to attract more passengers. There are many other proposals waiting in line to increase the numbers.”
The transport corporation had lost a major chunk of its commuters after the fare hike earlier this year.
“We have experienced a surge in the number of passengers during the festival season this time. This is mainly due to the increasing fares of the private buses during that interval,” said the official.
The SETC currently operates a fleet of 1,157 buses from 22 depots, which includes various types of buses such as ultra-deluxe, air-conditioned and classic buses.
“It is a good news that SETC is replacing its existing fleet with new buses. I would like the corporation to improve the quality of service provided inside these buses.
The people will become regular passengers only when the buses maintain punctuality, resolve the issues of frequent breakdowns and upkeep of maintenance,” opined S Avinash of Chennai, a regular SETC commuter.
The transport corporation runs long distance mofussil services exceeding 300 km and above throughout the State, and major cities in adjoining states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Puducherry.
The operational area of the corporation with the total routes of 251 – 111 interstate routes and 140 intra state routes – are served.
It also offers facilities including advance booking and reservation on all its routes.
