    400 enroll for course on Vaishnavism

    Over 400 students have enrolled in the first batch of courses offered jointly by the Tamil University and the Vaishnavite research centre of Sri Ranganatha Swamy temple at Srirangam, said Vice Chancellor G Bhaskaran on Thursday.

    As many as 12 courses in Vaishnavism are being offered by the Directorate of Distance Education and the Azhwargal Acharyargal Vainava Aivu Maiyam of the Sri Rangam temple. Of these, two are PG courses, one UG course, five diploma courses and four certificate courses.

    Presiding over the inaugural meeting of the course, the Vice Chancellor said, there are roots of Vaishnavism in the sangam literature and that Vaishnavites still uses pure Tamil words in their regular conversations.
