    New textbooks for school students ready for sale

    The state government on Thursday announced that textbooks with revised syllabus for Class 1, 6 and 9 have been supplied to retail shops. However, for Class 11 students, the books will be available from the second week of June.

    Copies of the books printed by the Tamil Nadu Text Book and Educational Services Corporation (TNTBESC) were distributed across the State through online sale, DPI centre, retail counters and licenced retailers. 

    In addition, the books will be distributed free of cost for the students studying in government schools. The free textbooks are directly delivered to TNTBESC beneficiary schools identified by the Director of School Education and the Director of Elementary Education at the district-level. School Education Secretary Pradeep Yadav, in a communication, said that the quality of paper used in the new books  has been enhanced and it is of 80 GSM density produced by the TNPL. The official said even the covers of the textbooks are thick and come in a TNPL 230 GSM Aura Fold Blu quality. “Textbook rates have been fixed according to the quality of the paper,” he added. Tamil textbooks for classes 1 to 12 were being supplied free of cost to Tamil students studying in the states of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, New Delhi and a couple of other states every year by the TNTBESC. The distribution of textbooks to schools would go on until the first week of June.
