The district recorded a total of 20.5 mm in the last 24 hours at 8 am on Friday with an average of 17.10 mm, officials said. However, four centres, Arcot, Wallajahpet, Kaveripakkam and Arkonam had witnessed dry days while Melalathur recorded the highest rain of 60.60 mm, officials said. This was followed by Vellore with 37.8 mm, Sholingur with 36 mm and Gudiyattam with 34.20 mm, they added. While Alangayam and Ambur recorded 12 mm and 11 mm, the lowest rainfall in the district was at Vaniyambadi which recorded a mere 8.3 mm.

Despite a dip in the daytime temperature due to the rainfall, a prolonged power cut due to problems in the Tiruvalam feeder, which supplies power to Vellore residents, made it worse for the locals. TNEB officials were yet to provide reasons for the prolonged power outage.
