In a first, Madurai cops to use CCTVs to monitor locked houses
In a bid to cut rising incidents of burglaries, the Madurai Police have launched the ‘Locked House Monitoring System’ (LHMS), under which they will install temporary CCTV cameras free of cost in houses when the residents go out of town.
Madurai
Police Commissioner Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal on Thursday launched it and according to him, it was the first such initiative by the police in the state.
Aggarwal said the new facility has been launched as a part of the already existing ‘Madurai City Police’ app. A new option, LHMS, had been added in the app and when users opt for LHMS, it will direct them to a page where they will be asked to register their names and personal details such as mobile number, email ID and address.
When people present their need to fix CCTV cameras in their houses, it will be registered in the police stations and the police will contact them, following which the cameras would be fixed in the houses. After installation, the footage can be accessed round-the-clock with the help of another app ‘EZVIZ’ by the house owners. Also, the police will monitor the house round-the-clock from the control room.
The footage along with photos would be sent both to the house owner and to the policemen, following which patrol teams would rush to the spot to nab any intruders. Initially, the facility will be available at to two police stations — Tallakulam and Koodalpudhur.
