Ruling camp firefighting to keep MLAs on its side
With RK Nagar legislator TTV Dinakaran asserting that more number of MLAs would join him to remove the government headed by Edappadi K Palaniswami, the ruling AIADMK is closely watching the moves of party MLAs. There are also efforts to bring back Kallakurichi MLA, who recently crossed over to Dinakaran’s camp.

Party functionaries claim that an MLA from Namakkal district is said to be the next target of Dinakaran camp. According to one of the functionaries, the said MLA belonging to a hilly region could switch camps soon increasing TTVs clout in the Assembly.
Earlier, when the ruling party had enquired into the reasons for Prabhu’s switch to the rival camp just on the eve of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Chennai, the major reason for the young legislator’s move is said to be the dominant attitude of another senior legislator belonging to the same district. Chief Minister’s camp is now trying to pacify him and bring him back to the party by promising good schemes for his constituency.
Meanwhile, three AIADMK allies who were elected to the Assembly on ‘Two Leaves’ have vowed to stay together to fight for the rights of Tamil Nadu and their united voice is expected to give them more strength in the Assembly, whenever it is convened.
The three leaders, Karunas (Mukkulathor Pulipadai), Thaniyarasu (Kongu Ilaignar Peravai) and Thamimun Ansari (Manithaneya Jananayaga Katchi) shared the platform at a meeting to mark the third anniversary of Ansari’s party at Nagapattinam on Thursday. The conference had attracted a good crowd from the district which has a sizeable minority population, besides farmers and fishermen and a large number of people from the backward communities.
The meeting held at the tail-end area of the Cauvery delta region appealed to the Centre to set up the Cauvery Management Board and Cauvery Regulation Committee within the stipulated time frame ordered by the Supreme Court. It also raised its voice for fishermen and urged the Centre to ensure protection for the fishermen against the attacks and firing by the Sri Lankan navy.
It also wanted the delta districts to be declared as protected agricultural zone so that the region is not used by the ONGC and other companies for extraction of methane gas and petroleum. The resolution said the oil and gas companies are spoiling the fertile agricultural land and turning the delta districts into a desert.
