Anna University sends results via SMS
Around 4,09,085 students of Anna University and its affiliated colleges received their semester results successfully through SMS on Friday evening.
Chennai
This is the first time that the University sent out the results through text messages on the registered mobile number of the students, who received subject-wise marks as soon as the results were declared. This service was available for everyone except those who wrote their first semester examination.
Commenting on the move, GV Uma, Controller of Examinations (CoE), said, “This will reduce the hardships of the students, as they will not have to struggle through the web-portal.” The CoE also released a list of measures by the University to streamline the process.
For instance, the date for the practical examination and theory examinations were declared in the beginning of the semester, in order to give students enough time to prepare for the same. “As the examinations have been conducted and the results published within the stipulated time, it will allow students to utilise their holidays properly and plan their internships / training programmes better,” said a circular released by the CoE.
Additionally, the varsity took action against 1,074 faculty members this year for awarding illogical marks in the valuation. This is to reduce significant variations in awarding marks in valuation. “In order to improve the examination system, answer keys are provided for all subject question papers to the faculty members to value the answer scripts. It has made a major impact on the examination process. Owing to this, we hope that the total number of students who will apply for revaluation / review be considerably reduced this year.”
Also, considering various representations received from the parents and students the University has decided to give two more chances to the students writing their arrear exams who have already exhausted the maximum time permitted in the Regulations for appearing examinations in February 2018 and August 2018, on humanitarian grounds.
