    2 killed as bus ploughs through shandy

    Two poultry traders from Tiruchy district were killed and 15 others injured after a TNSTC bus ploughed through a crowd at a market near Viralimalai in Pudukkottai on Monday morning.

    Police said that over a hundred customers and traders were doing business at the weekly hen shandy arket at Rajalippatti near Viralimalai on Monday. Meanwhile, a Manapparai-bound TNSTC bus from Pudukkottai ran amok after the driver lost control of the vehicle. The bus ploughed through the crowd at the shandy killing two traders on the spot. 

    The two were identified as K Suppan (65) of Pampattipatti near Manapparai in Tiruchy and G Selvaraj (50) of Purathakkudi near Samayapuram, Tiruchy. Fifteen others were injured in the accident. The onlookers alerted 108 ambulance service which reached the spot and shifted the injured to the Manapparai government hospital. 

    On information, a team of police personnel attached to Viralimalai station rushed to the spot and sent the bodies to the Manapparai GH for a post mortem. Viralimalai police have registered a case. S Ravi (40), the bus driver, a resident of Varippatti near Pudukkottai has been arrested. The accident scene at Viralimalai.
