It’s temporary arrangement in all key posts

In a strange similarity, the top posts in some of the decision making positions in the state have turned out to be temporary arrangements.

Though it may not hamper the administrative process of the respective forums or bodies, none of the chiefs can decide on their own on any issue, though officially. Interestingly, C Vidyasagar Rao, the Governor of Maharashtra, is only holding additional charge of Tamil Nadu, so technically it is only a temporary arrangement for the state. Next is the AIADMK, the ruling party in the state, whose general secretary has only been granted powers of that authority.

As per the rule of that party, a general secretary can only be chosen through an election participated by all the members of the general council. Another law of the party says that the contestant for the post should have been with the organisation for a minimum period of five years without any break. Because of these rules, Sasikala will have to wait till April this year to contest the organisational poll of the AIADMK as she was sacked by the then general secretary of the party and late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa once in 2012.

The leadership situation in the main Opposition party DMK is also nearly the same as the party treasurer has been appointed working president, a post that was created for the elevation of Stalin. So, technically and officially he has to consult party president and his father M Karunanidhi before taking any major decision with regard to the party.

The Chief Minister in the state, though cannot be brought under this list, also appears to be a temporary candidate for the post. Going by the speculations that AIADMK general secretary Sasikala may take over the reins of the government any time, the position of O Panneerselvam too can be termed as an ad hoc arrangement.

While such a situation may be construed to bring a confusion in several issues, the good aspect, hopefully, is that every discussion taken by the top level of these forums or bodies would only be after lengthy deliberations taking divergent views into consideration. Let it be the second way so that all decisions bode well for the state.
