4 killed in 3 separate accidents in a single day in Madurai
Four persons lost their lives in various accidents in Madurai district on January 2. Two of them were pilgrims who were on their way to Palani Murugan Temple by foot.

In the first accident, the morning walk turned fatal for Ramamoorthy and Gopalakrishnan, both from Pasingapuram near Alanganallur, when they were returning from Sikkendar Chavadi. A TNSTC bus going towards Lakkampatti ran over the duo and killed Ramamoorthy on the spot.Â
Gopalakrishnan who sustained serious injuries was immediately rushed to Madurai GRH, but he too succumbed hours later. Koodalpudhur Police have booked a case and are investigating the incident.Â
In the second accident, Ganesan, a devotee from Sivakasi, was run over by an unknown vehicle at Tirumangalam in the wee hours of Monday. He along with two of his friends, Brammadevan and Kalirajan, were on their way to Palani Murugan Temple by foot.Â
The trio, who started their pilgrimage on Sunday evening, were about to cross Tirumangalam, when an unknown vehicle knocked down Ganesan and sped away. In the impact, Ganesan was thrown away to a longer distance. His friends rushed to save him, but found him dead.Â
Tirumangalam Town Police have booked a case and are in search of the vehicle. In another similar incident, Thenpandi from Tiruparankundram died when a lorry ran over him at Vadugapatti near Vadipatti in Madurai district on Monday. The victim along with friends were walking towards Palani, when the unfortunate incident occurred. Vadipatti Police have booked a case and are in search of the lorry.
