In the afternoon, the Madras High Court too dismissed a Habeas Corpus petition filed by the MP to produce her missing husband.
They were detained by Mylapore police on Wednesday and granted ‘station bail’ on Thursday morning, sources said. Police said Lingeswara Thilagan was questioned on a complaint by the AIADMK, which accused him of acting against the party. The rebel MP demanded action against those involved in the attack.
Meanwhile, the Madras High Court dismissed a Habeas Corpus petition seeking a direction to police to produce Rajya Sabha MP Sasikala Pushpa’s husband.
When the petition, which is yet to be numbered, filed by expelled AIADMK MP Sasikala Pushpa, came up before a vacation bench, public prosecutor Rajarathinam submitted that Thilagan was released on bail in the morning.
Thilagan was attacked allegedly by some AIADMK cadres when he went to file his wife’s nomination for post of general secretary and police took him into custody to prevent any further attacks on him, it was submitted. Three cases were registered against him and he was released on bail, he submitted before the bench, comprising Justice S Vaidayanathan and Justice V Parthibhan.
Justice Vaidyanathan, heading the bench, asked senior counsel V Prakash, appearing on behalf of Sasikala Pushpa, that when Thilagan has been let on bail “where is the question of an HCP.” The plea was then dismissed as not maintainable.
