4 months on, no breakthrough yet in train heist case
The Tamil Nadu CB-CID, which has been investigating the looting of Rs.5.75 crore currency notes belonging to RBI from a Chennai-bound train compartment, is yet to make any breakthrough in the case. CB-CID officials here rubbished the reports regarding identifying the accused behind the loot and releasing the photograph of the suspects.

“We have neither released any photographs nor have identified the gang. Any report in this regard is false and baseless,” a senior CB-CID official told DTNext. Some section of the media had reported and even published the photograph of the suspects in the train loot, terming them as people belonging to West Bengal. sHowever, CB-CID sources said they are yet to get any valuable clue that could lead them to the suspects.
“The investigation is still on and we are yet to get any breakthrough in the case. We have interrogated hundreds of suspects but we have not got any solid leads from the investigation so far,” the official added. CB-CID had raided all lodges and mansions along the railway track from Salem to Chennai, hoping to find information regarding strangers who had taken rooms ahead of the operation.
CBCID had also carried out extensive survey of the area, enquiring about new tenants who had taken houses on rent in these areas. However, none of this had delivered declared results. “We do not know from where this wrong information had been shared to the media. Once we get a breakthrough, we will be too happy to share the details,” the official said.
