Elephant found dead in Nilgiris
An 18-month-old female elephant calf was found dead at Kalamalai Reserve Forest in the Singara Range of Nilgiris North Division on December 4.

NS Manoharan conducted an autopsy on the carcass on Monday in the presence of Forest Department officials and NGO representatives. The animal had parasitic worms in the bowels and intestine, which was suspected to be the cause of its death, Forest Department officials said. Â The vital organs of the death animal were collected and sent for forensic analysis to ascertain the exact cause of death. The infected intestine and bowels were burnt.
