Forest officials examine the carcass of a tiger

COIMBATORE: A tiger was found dead in the Sigur forest area in Mudumalai Tiger Reserve (MTR) on Sunday.

The ten-year-old male tiger was spotted during a routine patrol by frontline staff of the forest department.

A post-mortem was done by a team led by Mudumalai Tiger Reserve veterinarian K Rajesh Kumar in the presence of P Arun Kumar, the Deputy Director of MTR.

A preliminary examination revealed that the tiger may have died due to infighting with another carnivore.

However, the samples from the visceral organs have been sent for forensic analysis to ascertain the cause of its death.

After a post-mortem, the carcass was destroyed by burning, and further inquiries are underway.

This is the second incident, as an eight-year-old tiger was found dead near Pykara Lake last Friday.

Officials said there were no external injuries, and the cause of death is yet to be known.
