MADURAI: No alliance can form the government in 2026 without support of AMMK, said party’s general secretary TTV Dhinakaran. After paying floral tributes to MG Ramachandran (MGR), the founder of AIADMK on his death anniversary at Andipatti in Theni district on Wednesday, the AMMK chief said key political parties called on his party for alliance in the approach to 2026 polls in Tamil Nadu, but the AMMK would make a final call in February, during the celebrations of the birth anniversary of former chief minister J Jayalalithaa.

Relishing the limelight of MGR’s successful political career in Andipatti, which he revered as sacred land of AMMK, Dhinakaran was resolute in his determination that his party would contest from Andipatti and achieve victory, Dhinakaran said.

When MGR was hospitalised in the United States, false news of his death spread, the people of Andipatti did not believe it, but had a strong faith in him and ultimately made him (MGR) win from Andipatti.

Though AMMK did not fare well in the 2021 polls, the party succeeded in its attempt and eventually achieved its goal, which did not allow those who wanted to rule.

"We (AMMK) will decide on what’s good for our party and take a right decision ahead of polls,” he said, adding that through trials and tribulations over the years, the AMMK has achieved a lot.

He further scotched rumours that AMMK is a part of NDA and six seats were offered to contest. “Let the AMMK remain in any alliance, victory is sure for the party from Andipatti,” he said.
