COIMBATORE: A leopard was snared to death in a private farm abutting the reserve forest area in the Nilgiris forest division.
On receiving information that a leopard got entangled in a fence at a farm in Nanjanad forest area, a team led by Ooty forest department personnel rushed to the spot and took rescue efforts on Sunday (August 23).
The leopard was tranquilised, the entangled wire removed, and treatment provided.
Yet, the leopard succumbed.
Following this, the forest department registered a case under the Wildlife Crime Prevention Act and nabbed a farmer, who set up the snare to prevent wild boar from damaging his carrot farm.
Further inquiries are under way.
