COIMBATORE: A 27-year-old woman doctor ended her life allegedly by administering an overdose of sleeping tablets through injection at a private hospital in Dharmapuri early Monday.

Police said Monica (27), from Hariharanatha Swamy Temple Street in Dharmapuri, took the extreme step as she did not like the groom fixed by her parents.

She was working as a doctor in the BGR hospital in Dharmapuri Town over the last two years after studying MBBS in the Philippines.

On Sunday, around 7 pm, Monica left for work from home. After attending to the patients, she went to her room around midnight.

Around 2 am, the nurses had gone to wake up Monica to attend an outpatient (OP) in the hospital.

As she did not open the door, the staff of the hospital broke open the doors and found her in an unconscious condition.

She was immediately admitted to the ICU ward, yet she died without responding to treatment. A check in her handbag revealed that she had around 40 sleeping tablets.

Police said the body was sent to the Dharmapuri Government Medical College Hospital for post-mortem.

Inquiries revealed that Monica was depressed over her alliance and expressed displeasure to her friends.

Based on a complaint, the Dharmapuri police have registered a case, and a further probe is underway.
