Chennai: Gold drops by Rs 1,600, while silver by Rs 5 on April 9, 2026; check how much they cost

CHENNAI: After an increase of Rs 2,720, gold has dipped by Rs 1,600 per sovereign (8 grams) on April 9.

The yellow metal is now priced at Rs 1,12,000 per sovereign and Rs 14,000 per gram, after a drop of Rs 200.

On April 8, gold was priced at Rs 1,13,600 per sovereign and Rs 14,200 per gram.

Silver prices drop

Silver  prices decreased by Rs 5 to sell for Rs 260 per gram (Rs 2,60,000 per kg) on April 9. On April 8, it was priced at Rs 265 per gram.

Gold remains significantly higher compared to last year. Prices have surged from Rs 67,280 per sovereign (Rs 8,410 per gram) on April 9, 2025, to Rs 1,12,000 per sovereign (Rs 14,000 per gram) on April 9, 2026, marking an increase of Rs 44,720 or about 66.46%.
