Chennai: Gold gets costlier by Rs 2,720, while silver by Rs 10 on April 8, 2026; check how much they cost

CHENNAI: A day after a fall of Rs 1,040 per sovereign (8 grams), gold has now surged by Rs 2,720 in a single session on April 8. 

The yellow metal is now priced at Rs 1,13,600 per sovereign and Rs 14,200 per gram, after an increase of Rs 340.

On April 7, gold was priced at Rs 1,10,880 per sovereign and Rs 13,860 per gram. 

Silver prices surge

Silver prices increased by Rs 10 to sell for Rs 265 per gram (Rs 2,55,000 per kg) on April 8. On April 7, it was priced at Rs 255 per gram. 

Gold rate today vs gold rate on this day, last year

Gold remains significantly higher compared to last year. Prices have surged from Rs 65,800 per sovereign (Rs 8,225 per gram) on April 8, 2025, to Rs 1,13,600 per sovereign (Rs 14,200  per gram) on April 8, 2026, marking an increase of Rs 47,800 or about 72.64%.
