Government making efforts to improve Public Distribution System
The government has been regularly reviewing and issuing instructions to states and union territories to strengthen the functioning of Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS) by improving its monitoring mechanism and vigilance, the Rajya Sabha was informed

In a written reply, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Minister Ram Vilas Paswan said the government has been issuing instructions to increase transparency in functioning of TPDS, adoption of revised model citizen’s charter, use of information and communication technology tools and improving the efficiency of fair price shop operations.’’
Paswan said, ‘’In order to maintain supplies and securing availability and distribution of essential commodities, Public Distribution System (Control) order, 2001 and TPDS (Control) order, 2015 have been notified. States and union territories have been directed in July, 2006 to implement nine-point action plan for streamlining the working of TPDS.’’
